  *Deceased

Scott Blaney

Greater Lawrence Technical School

Scott’s career spans over 34 years, 24 of those years as the Varsity coach at Greater Lawrence Technical High School. Greater Lawrence participated in the Merrimack Valley Conference followed by the Commonwealth Athletic Conference under coach Blaney’s tenure. During that time his teams won 4 championships and qualified for the state tournament 14 times. He was named the Lawrence Eagle Tribune Baseball Coach of the Year in 2003.

Scott’s career statistics are formidable but above all else in placing Scott in to the Hall of Fame his impact on the lives hundred of players should be noted. Scott has taken the discipline needed to succeed in sports and brought it as a lifetime lesson to the young men he both teaches and coaches. The Greater Lawrence Tech School District serves some of the most disadvantaged children in the Commonwealth yet year after year Scott’s players mirror his high standards for success and perseverance.

Coach Blaney’s knowledge and passion for baseball has been noted in the community. His practices are thoroughly planned and organized. He is known as master a teacher of the game and excellent motivator of his players.

Scott’s interest in his players goes far beyond the diamond. Many of his players have challenges that go beyond being successful student athletes. He takes pride as he watches his charges fulfill the dream he has helped them achieve, graduation from high school.

Richard Maynard

Holy Name Central Catholic High School

Dick has coached at Holy Name Jr./ Sr. High school for 21 years from 1985 through 2005. In those years, his teams have won 266 games, 4 Central Mass Conference titles and 1 Central Mass Division 1 Sectional title in 1992. Coach Maynard has also coached the Grafton Hill / Vernon Hill legion team for over 30 years. In that time, he has one a state championship and 16 zone championships. He has over 400 wins in legion baseball.

No matter where Coach Maynard has coached, he has demanded his players play the game of baseball with respect. His players are expected to conduct themselves like gentlemen. When his players left Holy Name, they left as better players and better people.

A strong advocate for his players, Coach Maynard never let an opportunity pass to promote the school or its athletes. He was actively involved when it came to a prospective college and its recruiting process. He tried to open up opportunities for athletes to excel at the next level and it even led to professional baseball for quite a few. Coach Maynard was active in getting Central Mass involved in the MBCA all- star games, just another example of how he helped get recognition for players in Central Mass.

Kevin McCarthy

Bishop Fenwick High School

For the past thirty years, Coach McCarthy has been the head coach of the Bishop Fenwick Baseball program. During his tenure, he has amassed more than 300 wins, a Division III State Title in 2004, runner-up in 1986, and multiple Catholic Central League championships. Coach McCarthy has been recognized as a “Coach of the Year “ by numerous publications including the Boston Globe, Boston Herald, Salem Evening News and the Lynn Daily Item. He has been selected to coach the Agganis Classic and the Emass All-Star games.  He has also been enshrined in the Bishop Fenwick Athletic Hall of Fame.

More than wins, Coach McCarthy has established himself as an ambassador and a true gentleman of the game of baseball. His Bishop Fenwick program is widely regarded throughout the state. It is one that has sent numerous players on to play at higher levels of competition. Any opponent of Bishop Fenwick knows that a Coach McCarthy team will be skilled in the fundamentals, prepared for any situation, and ready to compete to its utmost ability in a professional and sportsman-like manner.

Another hallmark of Coach McCarthy’s career is the number of his former players that have come back to coach baseball both at Bishop Fenwick, and other high schools, as well as in a number of youth programs. Coach McCarthy’s love and commitment to the game of baseball and the teaching of it to others is clearly observable and contagious. The term teacher-coach is most fitting for him. In addition to his career on the baseball field, Coach McCarthy has spent more than thirty years at Bishop Fenwick as a Math instructor, inspiring students in the classroom as well as on the athletic field.

Coach McCarthy has committed 30 years to high school baseball while making sure that the focus is always on the players and the game, not himself. This commitment and self-sacrifice is most deserving of recognition.

Joseph Stoico

Milford High School

Coach Stocio’s teams in 9 years won 111 games, 5 league titles, appeared in 4 district playoffs, won 1 Sectional Title, and was the State Runner-up in 1965. He is recognized not only for his on the field accomplishments, but more so for the significant impact he had on his players then, which continues even today. Eight former players who have gone on to coach felt so strongly about Coach Stoico that they wrote letters of recommendation with testimony of how he influenced their lives. Here are but a few of the comments

“Coach Stoico was an inspiration to many young players like myself who looked to him as a model of a teacher-coach that you would like to emulate.”

Coach Stoico’s tough nature drove his teams to push themselves to achieve greater goals. He had such a great rapport with his teams; we would do anything he would ask us to do .He was more than a coach; he is a mentor and a friend.”

“Coach Stoico’s tenure at Milford High School, though not lengthy in terms of years, would be best characterized by its intensity. Everything Coach did was done with total commitment and dedication. He had that unique ability to transfer that intensity to his players, so that it became theirs.”

“Coach Stoico brought a tremendous love for and knowledge of the game of baseball. His undaunted energy and drive to succeed is unparalleled. The fact that so many of his former players followed in his coaching footsteps, at various levels, attests to the influence and impact he had over them. Coach Stoico’s mission in life was to teach and coach and he did them both extremely well.”
